About GP Plus
About the initiative
GP Plus Practice Nurse Initiative
Approximately 30% of General Practices in Adelaide currently employ a practice nurse, compared to the national rate of 60%. Specifically the initiative aims to increase the number of practice nurses working in the general practice sector to build workforce capacity to deliver effective chronic disease management.
In partnership with the South Australian metropolitan Divisions of General Practice, SA Health is providing funds to support the recruitment, training, orientation and skill acquisition for nurses new to general practice or to up skill existing practice nurses.
GP Plus Practice Nurses work collaboratively with GP's, acting as a catalyst for change within General Practice. They are involved in promoting good health and preventative health care by increasing the focus on chronic disease management. In addition they conduct health screening checks on population groups and provide education to individuals and the community.
